Circle of Honors
The Circle of Honors idea was sparked by Golden Key officers, including myself, in the spring of 2014 after recognizing the dying culture of honors on campus. We reached out to various honor societies on UW This idea was brought to life by spring 2015. The Circle of Honors is a tradition that we, the honors societies of UW, hope to initiate as a celebration of the most positive elements of the student experience. Over the course of Week 1 of Spring 2015, we hosted a variety of events and activities for the UW general student population and for the members of our honors society. The honors societies of UW represent a group of ambitious, academically competent, service-minded individuals. Various administrators, professors, staff and groups on campus came out to support our efforts.
Group Dynamic: Creating Change
The Circle of Honors has been an event that I had always envisioned since I first joined Golden Key. The honors community wasn’t as strong as before and I felt as though being in a part of the honors department and being an honors student is something you should be proud of. I brought this idea up to the other GK officers and we all agreed that it was an event worth pursuing. We then reached out to other honors societies on campus to see if they were interested in our mission. For 2 quarters, we spent countless nights planning what was the best approach to celebrating the honors program and our plan of action. By spring 2015 we launched our first circle of honors week. We were able to influence the honors community and we hope that the Circle of Honors will be an annual event that promotes ambitious and high achieving students.
